SELF TEST
Opioid Dependency is a chronic and progressive disease. It can affect any person regardless of age, gender, race, educational level or socioeconomic status. Due to the varied stages and consequences of its progression, the disease affects each person differently. If you believe that you or someone you care about has a problem with opiates, answer the following questions:
Do you have to take more opiates (Lortab, Oxys, Vicodin) to get the same effect?
Do you spend a lot of time thinking about, searching for, using, or feeling sick from opiates?
Have you faked or exaggerated an injury to get pain pills? Do you go to more than one doctor or pharmacy?
Have you become secretive about your using, hiding it from family and friends?
Have you ignored responsibilities at home, school or work due to using?
Do you continue to use opiates despite negative consequences? (legal problems, failed relationships, loss of job, financial stressors, poor health)
Have you attempted to limit your use but end up taking more than you intended?
Have you returned to using after trying to quit?
Have friends, family, or co-workers expressed concern about your using?
Are there times when you feel that you have to use opiates just to feel normal?
Have you lied or stolen from others to obtain money to buy drugs?
Do you feel that you have to use opiates just to get out of bed or make it through the day?
Do you feel physically sick (nausea, cold sweats, body aches, diarrhea) if you do not take anything?
Do you take other drugs (Xanax, Soma, cocaine, marijuana) in an attempt to relieve the pain of withdrawal?
Do you worry about where you will get more pills to avoid being sick tomorrow?
If you answered yes to three or more of these questions, you may have a problem with opiates. This test is not designed or intended to diagnose a medical condition. Only a qualified professional can determine the presence of such a diagnosis.
